Special Olympics. The Knights have participated in and helped fund several Special Olympics events, including the Softball and Bowling tournaments. The Fall Bowling Classic this year is November 9, 2007. Volunteers are requested for Friday afternoon.
Tootsie Roll Drive. The Knights as part of the brotherhood of Knights throughout the country participate in the annual Tootsie Roll drive in April. This event is used to raise money for the mentally and physically handicapped youths and adults. Money raised from the tootsie rolls is turned back to various agencies within the Twin Cities who support those members of the community challenged by physical or mental abilities.
Soup Supper. Chef Ken and crew provide a number of Soup suppers throughout the year. These events are an opportunity to share in fellowship with brother Knights as well as with our Parish members at large. This is a great opportunity to share a meal with community after sharing in the Eucharist.
Cleanup. The Knights have been instrumental in providing a number of services to the Parish community. This includes cleanup and beautification of the grounds. The groto outside the rectory has been redone with new fencing and plants. The Church grounds have been cleaned in spring and fall. The storage garage siding was completed. The Knights have been instrumental in helping to remove the snow on weekends from the sidewalks to keep access to the Church free and clear.
KC Free Throw Contest. Each year the Knights sponser a local Free Throw contest. Youth from the parish and surrounding community are invited to participate in shooting free throws. Winners in each age group from 9 - 14, both boys and girls get a chance to participate at the District level, then State level. This past year 35 youth participated in this contest.
KC Bar-B-Que. The Knights put on their first Bar-B-Que as a thank you to the Parishoners of St. Gerard in May 2006. This was held after a 5:00 p.m. Mass and was so successful, we are planning on doing it each year as a way to thank all the parishoners of St. Gerard's for thier support of the Knight's activities and fund raisers throughout the year.
St. Gerard Corn Fest. Each year the Knights work together to help raise funds for the Parish of St. Gerard's at the annual Corn Fest. The Knights sponsor the Bingo tent (now in St. Francis Hall) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Corn Fest. All proceeds from the Bingo go toward the Parish general revenue fund.
St. Gerard St. Patrick Day Auction. In 2007, the Council took on the role of assisting with the St. Patrick Day Auction. Activities included working with Sue Czerniak and the parish office in planning, coordinating, and organizing the event. The Knights worked in various roles the night of the event to help successfully raise approximately $20,000 for the Parish.
Ice Fising at Mille Lacs Lake. The Knights spent a weekend at Mille Lacs lake on a fishing excursion. While there was plenty of ice, a great time of fraternity was had by all who attended the event. Look for more events to come.
Rosary Distribution. On April 28th and 29th 2007, the Knights distributed 1000 finger Rosaries to parishoners after the masses in preparation of the Month of Mary (May). This turned out to be so successful, the Knights ran out of rosaries and are ordering an additional supply to make available to those who did not receive them.
